Build Your Own Dining Room Table
Building your own dining room table is a great way to save money and get exactly what you want. It's also a fun and rewarding project that can be completed in a weekend. Here are the steps on how to build a dining room table:
Materials
- 1 piece of 1" x 8" x 8' pine board - 4 pieces of 1" x 4" x 8' pine board - 1 piece of 1/2" x 8" x 8' plywood - Wood glue - 1 1/2" wood screws - Finishing nails - Sandpaper - Stain or paint (optional)
Tools
- Circular saw - Miter saw - Drill - Countersink bit - Clamps
Instructions
1. Cut the 1" x 8" pine board to 60" long. This will be the tabletop.
2. Cut the 1" x 4" pine boards to 28" long. These will be the legs.
3. Cut the 1/2" x 8" plywood to 56" x 28". This will be the apron.
4. Assemble the table by attaching the legs to the apron with wood glue and 1 1/2" wood screws. Make sure the legs are flush with the edge of the apron.
5. Attach the tabletop to the apron with wood glue and finishing nails. Make sure the tabletop is flush with the edge of the apron.
6. Sand the table to smooth out any rough edges.
7. Stain or paint the table as desired.
Tips
- Use a level to make sure the table is level before attaching the tabletop.
- Use a countersink bit to countersink the wood screws so they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- If you want to add a finish to the table, such as a stain or poly, be sure to apply it evenly and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
